Have you heard the news? Well, Apple’s new OS won’t work on older Macs, so it might be time to retire yours. On June 7th, Apple unveiled their 12th macOS update: Monterey. This release includes a plethora of updates such as FaceTime upgrades such as spatial audio and SharePlay; Universal Control across devices; and Live Text and Visual Lookup. Unfortunately, older MacBook Pro and Air models (Early 2016 and early 2015, respectively) are not going to be able to install the OS.

Maps

Second, in this release, the Maps app undergoes another overhaul with better road highlighting, additional details for neighborhoods, cities, trees, and buildings. However, this more detailed experience is currently only limited to major cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Photos

Third, the Memories feature in the Photos app has been redesigned and includes new animations, transition styles, new color options, integration with Apple Music, and more. Further, you can now import photos from another Photos library and more easily correct misidentified people.

Safari

Fourth, Safari has an updated tab bar and introduces Tab Groups so that you can group open tabs together.

Messages

Fifth, Messages includes a new “Shared With You” feature that takes you to content you’ve received in Messages.

Shortcuts

Sixth, Shortcuts is now available on the Mac so that you can access them all easily on all of your Apple devices.
