Athlete Profile: John Chalbeck

Introducing one of Michigan’s boxing veterans, John Lee Chalbeck. If you haven’t heard the name before, “The Florida Keys Kid” has been competing for the majority of his life in boxing, MMA, and more recently, bare-knuckle boxing. He has competed at multiple weight classes such as 140, 145, and most recently 155. 

Weigh In and Match Highlights

While John “The Florida Keys Kid” usually competes closer to his walking weight, the bout with Adam was held at 155 pounds. In the weigh-in video below, you can clearly see the size difference between John (153 lbs) and Adam (155 lbs).

BKFC 20: John Chalbeck vs. Adam Pellerano

Last Friday, John traveled to Biloxi, Mississippi, to square off toe-to-toe with Adam Pellerano. A true mixed martial artist, John has amassed a 4-0 professional MMA record, 9-0 in pro boxing, and as of now, 1-1 in BKFC.

In the highlight videos on the right, you can see a few of the counterpunch combinations that John threw in the pocket. Each one landing with deadly precision and power, Adam’s face opened up early on resulting in blood pouring from his nose and multiple lacerations.

In Conclusion & What's Next for John

Though the judges had a different idea of who the clear winner was, John plans to return to BKFC and rise to prominence as the 145 lb champion. At almost 40 years old, he has a lifetime in combat sports experience with astounding dedication in his daily investment in training.
