Is Tech Taking Over?
Is tech taking over? In this post, we review the advances in technology over the last few centuries. For example, in the 21st century, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, and more, made their debut and permanently changed how society functions.
Ways Tech Has Changed Our Lives
1. Lifestyle – it has been quite a long time since food delivery first took off in the western world in the 1780s. Now, not only can you order food to be delivered, but you can order groceries, home cleaning products, and pretty much everything else. Ultimately, a majority of people rely on the Internet in their daily routines, and some have jobs that exist only because of technology.
2. Health – first, online medical records were introduced. Next, the introduction and improvement of 3D medical imaging. Not long after, wearables were introduced with their primary functions consisting of tracking heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep habits, and more.
3. Human behavior – as we previously stated, most people use the Internet for their day-to-day tasks. Whether that be using a mobile app or software to order food, booking rides, or tracking eating habits… there’s probably “an app for that.”
Positive Effects of Tech
- 1. Agriculture - automated farming processes mean farmers can grow and harvest more crops than previously possible
- 2. Transportation - people can travel long distances with speed and comfort via air, land, or water
- 3. Communication - anyone can get connected from anywhere with 5G technologies rolling out
- 4. Radio, Television, and Digital Media - news and information has never been easier to obtain, no matter where you are located
- 5. Education - similar to the last point, education has become more accessible to all regardless of location with the addition of remote and digital learning
Negative Effects of Tech
- 1. Mental Health - overuse of gadgets and online communication have been noted to cause negative effects on mental health
- 2. Relationships - with the lack of face-to-face interaction, relationships may become fragile
- 3. Digital World Addictions - distracted by a digital world, some individuals lose social skills and the desire to communicate with people in real life
- 4. Social Media and Youth Self Image - with the constant stream of seemingly perfect images on social media, teenagers can be affected negatively as they compare themselves to others
- 5. Video Game Addicts - we aren't talking about your college buddy that games every night; video game addicts often stay at their home for weeks on end and lead mostly sedentary lifestyles
In Conclusion
Lastly, though technology has made our lives more difficult in some ways, there are also a lot of positive ways they’ve affected us. Depending on how you look at it, you may be excited about the upcoming advancements, or a bit worried. Whichever it may be, with seemingly endless opportunities in tech, perhaps one day you’ll find your favorite gadget. Are you excited about any upcoming technologies, gadgets, or devices?
