How to Get Hired in Information Technology
If it’s your personal goal to get hired in information technology, you’ve come to the right place. Today, we’ll go over a few tips to help you land your dream role in IT.Â
Tips to Starting a Career in IT
First and foremost, I cannot stress enough the importance of establishing a goal as soon as possible in your search. Without a clear goal in mind, you may quickly find yourself applying to jobs that you would be okay with, or maybe you just barely meet the requirements for. This can easily become a time sink, so remain cognizant as you proceed with your search.
Have you ever looked at the back of a video game case? If you have, there’s a chance you might have seen a section that describes the different minimum and suggested requirements. The concept is quite similar when it comes to jobs – most, if not all, list required skills.
Certain social media networks like LinkedIn can be a great platform to start networking with various people in IT. Further, if you want to learn about what’s trending in technology, LinkedIn contains a robust search feature so you can find what you’re looking for quickly.
Next, do some preliminary research on the industry you’re interested in. Are you a big people person? If you are, a role in Project Management might suit you, as they commonly work with stakeholders to establish release timelines and track deliverables.Â
Sometimes, the only roles that are available in your area are volunteer-based or unpaid. In some cases, it may be best to start in a similar role to begin gaining hands-on experience.
Entry-Level IT Jobs
These are some of the more popular entry-level IT jobs.Â
- Help Desk Analyst
