Other Noteworthy Tech Films

The Truman Show (1998)

The Truman Show is a reality TV show about a kind, unaware insurance salesman, Truman Burbank, that is being filmed 24/7. Broadcast on live television, Truman’s cookie-cutter city with well-manicured lawns turns out to be a manufactured set. His friends, coworkers, and neighbors, are all part of an elaborate plot created by his father to display “life” live.

Her (2013)

A lonely writer develops a romantic relationship with an operating system designed to meet his every need. Consequently, he discovers the operating system has similar relationships with thousands of people.

Wall-E (2008)

Generally speaking, Disney movies don’t show up on tech lists. However, this film features an uninhabitable Earth, polluted beyond belief by humans. In the long run, Wall-E convinces the now space-inhabiting people to return to their home planet and clean up their mess.

Ex Machina (2014)

In short, Ex Machina follows a programmer’s life as he wins a competition to spend a week in the mountains. It isn’t long before he uncovers his true purpose: to evaluate a new artificial intelligence robot.

The Matrix (1999)

Unique from other movies of its time – Keanu Reeves stars in this classic sci-fi adventure film. In a world now driven by computers, he discovers a digital matrix that feeds on humans, and it’s up to him to take it down.

I, Robot (2004)

In 2035, a homicide detective of the Chicago Police Department, Del Spooner, begins an investigation of the alleged suicide of one of the leading robots scientists. Spooner uncovers secret agendas of the United Stats Robotics (USR) corporation and their insidious plots.

The Martian (2015)

Like most space movies, The Martian follows the mission of astronaut Mark Watney, who is left behind on Mars by his crew. Before running out of time, he must notify NASA to bring him home.

Tron: Legacy (2010)

In summary, Tron follows 27-year-old Kevin in his investigation of his father’s disappearance. He explores the dangerous, digital world to protect the invasion of the real world by a malevolent computer program.

I Am Mother (2019)

To say nothing of this sci-fi thriller would be a disservice to the tech community. Similar to HAL in 2001: A Space Odyssey, I Am Mother explores a girl, raised solely by a robot, who is destined to repopulate the earth.

Mute (2018)

Mute takes place in the same universe as Moon, Duncan Jones’ Sci-Fi mystery from 2009. This Netflix original film follows a mute bartender in a near-future underworld on a search for his missing girlfriend. Featuring Alexander Skarsgård, Justin Theroux, and Paul Rudd, this thrilling mystery follows an odd pair of suspicious American surgeons hoping to help Leo (Skarsgård).
