Shockingly, 2020 is coming to a close. Correspondingly, we’ve compiled a list of the best tech majors. Furthermore, we’ve included the starting median salary, mid-career salary, percentage of future growth, and post-collegiate full-time roles for each degree.
Diving Deeper Into Technology
First, we’ll touch on cybersecurity and where you may end up if you choose this career. Next, we highlight the broad range of careers in computer science and information technology. Equally important careers like those in information systems, network & system administration, and software engineering, also boast routine advancement opportunities.
Bridging the Healthcare Gap
Usually, people who study health informatics learn about using technology and analytics to improve medical records and systems. For the most part, health informatics roles have a decent starting salary with potential to grow.
Web Development & Design
Generally speaking, when someone refers to web development and design, they are talking about public sites. However, some companies have internal sites for their organizational charts. Additionally, they may have an internal news and information page. Though different programming languages may be involved in web development, for the most part, they all serve similar purposes.
Information Systems
For the most part, information systems refers to the study of information and the complementary networks of hardware and software. Furthermore, the collection, processing, and storing of data is included. According to Britannica, there are 5 components of information systems.
Network & System Administration
Administrators are responsible for the day-to-day operation of networks, computer systems, intranets, local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), network segments, and other data communication systems. Ordinarily, system administrators often work directly with software and hardware. Conversely, network administrators focus more on the computer interactions with one another.
The Best Tech Schools
Obviously, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (better known as MIT), is one of the forerunners in artificial intelligence and climate adaptation. Comparatively, Cornell has a high percentage of graduation but a low acceptance rate.
Be that as it may, the Nanyang Technological University has partnerships with some of the world’s leading technology companies.
Last but not least, with its proximity to London, the University of Cambridge is best suited for those interested in research.

Overall, each of these schools has a broad range of tech programs and degrees for the present-day IT prodigy. Given these points, we’ve listed a few of them below. By all means, this is not a ranked list. Another key point is that not all universities listed offer all majors listed above.
MIT is a private school originally founded in 1861 that was initially a small community of problem-solvers and science lovers. Researchers at MIT are at the forefront of cutting-edge developments in artificial intelligence (AI), HIV, cancer, climate adaptation, poverty alleviation, and more.
Carnegie Mellon University is consistently ranked as a top-25 institution. Students are encouraged to think in new ways, becoming experts in fields from business, computer science, and engineering.
Cornell is a highly rated private university in New York. With an acceptance rate of only 11%, 95% of students graduate, earning an average starting salary of $64,800.
The University of Cambridge, UK, is 50 miles north of London. It is a public research institution that serves more than 18,000 students globally. The university has six academic schools, including technology, biological sciences, and humanities and social sciences.
The Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU) is home to 33,000 students and is placed 11th globally for the world’s best universities. From 2012-2016, NTU was ranked as the top university for citations in artificial intelligence. It has partnerships with some of the world’s largest technology companies such as Rolls-Royce, BMW, Volvo, and more.
Finally, it is important to note that technologically advanced universities differ from those with technical programs. By and large, schools may have technology integrated with learning in addition to classwork.
