About the project

Mary Vance Lifestyle x Hailstorm-Development

Mary Vance, owner and founder of Mary Vance Lifestyle, reached out to Hailstorm-Development to expand awareness of the offered services. We came to absorb the existing MVL site, MailChimp account, and various social media handles. We hoped to make slight adjustments to the existing company brand to modernize it to coincide with our relaunch of weekly newsletter campaigns. MVL is many things: therapeutic massage & bodywork, lifestyle habit pattern change coaching, body sculpting, simplicity retreats, and meditation programs. With this in mind, we needed to make it clear to potential clients the various services and offerings available.  

Some of our goals for this project were to: 

  • Increase awareness of other offered services and available discounts
  • Make it easy to apply to retreats and coaching programs
  • Highlight some of the best photos and testimonials from past retreats 
  • Improve mobile site and overall navigation
  • Make it easy to sponsor athletes and make donations

The Challenge

Since Mary has been in the business for several years, she has built up a lot of awareness of her body sculpting and nutrition expertise locally simply via word of mouth. She also frequently volunteers her time to local libraries and ministries to speak about her personal health journey. During her career, she has had a few rebranding and renaming points, which led to some audiences being split from one another. We wanted to tap into these audiences and include them in weekly communications, but ensure they would trust the message was from Mary herself. This resulted in us developing a strategy for slowly rolling out brand updates via email and the website.

Project Timeline

Mary Vance Lifestyle: First MailChimp Campaign

The first email sent via MailChimp was for the Happy New Year. No images were included and the social links were for Champion's Choice Muscle (beginning of Mary Vance Lifestyle branding).

MVL Partners with Hailstorm-Development

With their previous web and email marketing person going on hiatus as they changed careers, we stepped in to finish up the remaining work and started getting into a consistent release pattern.

MVL Starts Weekly Newsletters, New Logo Rollout

New year, new MVL. A primary goal for the year was to send out weekly newsletters to keep everyone up-to-date on events and offerings. A new logo was introduced in the first campaign, featuring "MVL" and marking a departure from the full "Mary Vance Lifestyle" verbiage.

January 1, 2023

New USA Version of Logo Rolled Out

The logo introduced in January 2023 has been updated to have a more American feel. The text has been updated from black to red, black, and blue with a white background.

The Transformation

Use the sliding bar in the image above to switch between the Mary Vance Lifestyle website in 2022 compared to the website now in 2023. Both have similar branding (desire is the first step towards success) but the navigation has been added. You will also notice that we changed the hero image to a photo of Mary to convey a more personal connection.

From January 1, 2023, to present, we’ve sent out just over 8,000 emails through MailChimp for Mary Vance Lifestyle. Since then, we’ve seen an open rate increase to 41%. During our work with Mary, we were able to continuously grow her number of newsletter subscribers by adding a popup email signup on the website.

Additionally, we made it easier for people to apply for retreats by baking the retreat application into the website. We also improved the contact form so users could include information about what they wanted to learn more about.
