Apple Has Agreed to a $50 Million Settlement

Yeah, you read that right – Apple has finally agreed to a $50 million settlement for MacBook owners that had to replace their keyboards or keys. What that means is that you can get up to $395 for your faulty MacBook keyboard.

How Much Might You Get?

How much money you are awarded depends on how much you had to replace. If you replaced multiple keyboards, you could receive from $300 up to $395. If you replaced one keyboard, you can get up to $125, and if you replaced even a single keycap, you’re eligible for up to $50.

How Do You Submit a Claim?

Submitting a claim for this issue is quite easy to do, but is only available until March 6th, 2023, so it’s important to act fast. You can simply go to the keyboardsettlement.com website as long as you are a person or entity within the United States that purchased an affected device between 2015 and 2019.

Next, you will be sorted into one of three groups with different payment tiers:

  • Anyone who had to replace their keyboard more than once – up to $395
  • Anyone who replaced their whole keyboard – up to $125
  • Anyone who replaced a(n) individual keycap(s) – up to $50

In Conclusion

Ultimately, while it sucks that this happened, I think it’s good that Apple is being required to “pay” for it in one way or another. While the design and the sleekness of those models were impressive, they just didn’t stack up against the seemingly endless onslaught of keyboard issues. I’m happy to see this saga finally come to a close.
