A Security Update You Need to Install Now
If you’re an Apple device user, go to Software Updates now! A new Apple security update has been released for all iOS/iPad OS version 15.6.1 and macOS version 12.5.1 devices as of this morning on August 19th, 2022*. While annoying, it’s important to get this one installed as soon as possible to protect yourself from several bugs that could allow attackers to run malicious code on your device and even take control of it remotely.
How to Stay Safe Moving Forward
Fortunately, Apple has announced their plans to include a new feature titled, “Rapid Security Response,” which should enable devices to install security updates without rebooting. In the meantime, however, you can always turn on Advanced Lockdown Mode which will disable several features that are particularly vulnerable. Fear not, as you’re probably safe unless you’re a government employee (or similar) that is targeted by hackers. Â
In Conclusion
While this is, unfortunately, the third or fourth time we’ve heard reports of this nature in the last year or so, we don’t see it stopping any time soon. Hackers are getting more advanced and sneakier as days go by, with Apple trying to stay on the ball by having 9 out of 13 security updates patching a code execution bug. In laymen’s terms, that means someone could remotely take control of your Apple device.
*Please Note: The security updates were originally released on August 18th, 2022 per https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201222
